Please excuse our growth...

It’s no secret that UACCM has grown at an amazing pace over the past several years. In fact, college administrators have recently acknowledged the impressive growth by creating a new department on campus—Institutional Research. The new department will work cooperatively with campus faculty, staff, and students to conduct research, prepare reports, and complete surveys for internal and external constituents. The department will also conduct and present research intended to create continuous improvement of programs and customer service at UACCM and to fulfill the mission and overall strategic plan of the college.

The new department will be led by Wanda Hensley, who currently holds the position of registrar at UACCM, which she has held for the past 18 of her 30 years at the college. According to UACCM Vice Chancellor of Student Services Darren Jones, the new department will serve several purposes. “As our institution continues to experience growth and we prepare for our next Higher Learning Commission accreditation, the addition of this office will allow for great things in institutional, state, federal, and accreditation reporting data,” he said. The department will also make in-depth data more easily accessible to UACCM employees for purposes such as grant writing. Jones added, “Ms. Hensley’s intelligence, attention to detail, ability to work well with others, and commitment to making UACCM better has served UACCM well as registrar, and should continue to be a huge asset to the college as the new director of Institutional Research.” The college is currently searching for a replacement for Hensley at the registrar post.

Congratulations on your new position, Ms. Hensley!

Interested in Criminal Justice? Check This Out!

Did you know that UACCM is among 19 colleges and universities across the state who are collaborating with the University of Arkansas Criminal Justice Institute to provide Arkansas law enforcement officers with the unique opportunity to earn certificates and Associate of Applied Science degrees in Crime Scene Investigation and Law Enforcement Administration? Both programs are available exclusively to sworn Arkansas law enforcement officers and will allow them to complete certificate and degree programs at a fraction of the normal cost. This is an extraordinary educational opportunity for Arkansas officers that will greatly enhance the professionalism of law enforcement agencies.

Rapid advances in the forensic sciences have had a tremendous impact on criminal investigations. New technologies and techniques provide investigators today with more resources than ever before to successfully process crime scenes. The Crime Scene Investigation program has been designed to provide law enforcement practitioners with the opportunity to understand and utilize these resources. Through hands-on instruction and access to experts in the field, participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to recognize and appropriately document, collect, preserve, and store evidence from a crime scene, ultimately assisting them in solving more crime in their communities.

The Law Enforcement Administration program is designed to prepare law enforcement professionals for the unique challenges they will face as supervisors and agency heads. Utilizing proven management principles specific to law enforcement, participants will learn how to better meet the needs of their personnel and constituents. In addition, they will develop needed skills in critical areas of law enforcement management, including communication, case law, agency development, and much more.

To successfully complete a program, officers will be required to take special courses through the Criminal Justice Institute along with general education courses at UACCM. For more information on the program available at UACCM, contact the Office of Admissions at (501) 977-2053.

UACCM Grad Promotes Scholastic Honors at the Governor's Mansion

Check out the following newspaper article about a recent UACCM grad:

Andrea Hoelzeman, a recent UACCM graduate, participated in the 2009 Scholastic Honors Day at the Governor’s Mansion in Little Rock. This day was set aside to honor valedictorians from Arkansas high schools, and Hoelzeman was among several student ambassadors selected from two and four-year colleges throughout the state to assist with the event. During the event, the ambassadors visited with the honored students and their families and fielded questions about why they chose to go to their college and their overall experiences as college students. Hoelzeman said, “It was nice to help give the students a better idea of what to expect in college and to let parents know more about what they should be prepared for as their children begin their higher education journey.”

Hoelzeman graduated from UACCM in May 2009 with an Associate of Arts Degree in General Education. She is currently attending Arkansas Tech University in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. She added “It was an honor to meet Governor Beebe and be a part of Scholastic Honors Day. Hopefully, it will help tomorrow’s college students be better prepared for what lies ahead for them.”

Good job, Andrea! Way to represent UACCM!

Next Starlight Cinema July 2

For those who missed the first Starlight Cinema outdoor movie night of the season, another fun and free evening is just around the corner! The next event will be held on the evening of Thursday, July 2 in the UACCM Plaza Courtyard. The community event is being sponsored by UACCM and will feature the 2009 hit movie The Pink Panther 2. The movie will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m., and admission is open and free to the community in addition to UACCM students, faculty, and staff. Popcorn, drinks, and candy will be available during the event with all proceeds benefitting Century League of Morrilton.

The Pink Panther 2 follows inspector Jacques Clouseau, who has been assigned to only minor tasks after having been rewarded for solving the mystery of the Pink Panther Diamond. Unfortunately, the famous diamond has once again been stolen as have many other artifacts in a series of burglaries around the world. His past success will enable inspector Clouseau to be part of the dream team comprised of the greatest P.I.s from other European countries, where he is able to display his talents across the world in his usual bumbling and humorous fashion. The movie is rated PG with a total runtime of 92 minutes.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to the event and are asked to refrain from the use of tobacco products while on campus in accordance with the college’s new tobacco-free policy. In the event of inclement weather, the movie will again be rescheduled to a later date. For more event information, visit www.thecampuslink.blogspot.com or contact Jacob Ward at (501) 977-2142 or at ward@uaccm.edu.

We hope to see you for this fun event under the stars!

Blood Drive Today, Last Day to Drop Tomorrow

Welp, not to scare all you newbies around here this summer, but day 2 of summer school and we are after your blood (well, the American Red Cross is, anyway). The Red Cross will pull it's famous Bloodmobile up to the parking lot in front of The Plaza and will be there from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm today. So stop by if you get a chance and help save a life. From the Red Cross Web site:

Every minute of every day, someone needs blood. That blood can only come from a volunteer donor, a person like you who makes the choice to donate. There is no substitute for your donation. When you make a blood donation, you join a very select group. Currently only 3 out of every 100 people in America donate blood. From its beginning, the American Red Cross has formed a community of service, of generous, strong and decent people bound by beliefs beyond themselves. The American Red Cross blood donor embodies this principle. Please join us in our mission to maintain a safe and stable blood supply by donating blood today.

P.S. If you are needing to drop a class, tomorrow is the last day to do so and receive a 50% refund. Stop by the Registrar's Office in the University Center to find out how to drop a class.
