Make 'Em Laugh



UACCM/Soundscape Present MAKE 'EM LAUGH!
E. E. Cummings once said, “The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.”  On May 3rd and May 5th @7:00 p.m., UACCM Soundscape will give you an opportunity to make the most of your day with their show “Make ‘Em Laugh”.  It will be held at the Leadership Development Institute in downtown Morrilton and will be filled with some of the funniest songs from the Broadway stage from shows such as Annie Get Your Gun, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, A Chorus Line, Anything Goes, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Wicked, and many more.  Tickets are $10 and will include a spread of “funny foods” for audience members to indulge in.  To purchase your tickets call Janie Wagner at (501)215-4900 or e-mail wagner@uaccm.edu.  Grab a friend and come join in the fun!

Due to threatening tornado activity and severe weather in the Central Arkansas area, UACCM will be closed beginning at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, April 26th.

30 Second Challenge is today!

Think you can make 4 shots in 30 seconds?! Come to the 30 Second Challenge today at Union Square during X-Period! Participants will attempt to make a lay up, free throw, 3-point shot, and a half court shot in less than 30 seconds! Good luck everyone!

Student Recognition Ceremony

TAKING A MOMENT TO RECOGNIZE OUR STUDENTS
The fourth annual UACCM Student Recognition Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. During the ceremony, UACCM students who have been nominated by instructors and student organization sponsors for showing excellence in the pursuit of their studies and overall college careers will be publicly recognized for their efforts. The ceremony will be followed by a reception with refreshments in the UACCM Plaza. The public is invited to attend the ceremony and reception.

UACCM Instructor Will Offer An Educational Trip To New York

Please join UACCM Department of Fine Arts instructor Tina Lake on an educational trip of a lifetime to New York City: The Visual Arts. The five day trip will leave on May 17th, 2012 from the Little Rock Airport. There, we will explore architectural sites such as Frank Lloyd Wright’s Guggenheim Museum, the Empire State Building, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the Metropolitan Museum, Ellis island and the Statue of Liberty, Central Park and the Medieval Cloisters. The trip includes a tour guide to all scheduled sites, all breakfasts and dinners are included in this tour price, as are all entrance fees to museums, including a ticket for a Broadway show. UACCM GRAPHIC DESIGNER WINS PARAGON AWARD

         UACCM graphic/web designer Trevor Mize was recently honored with a bronze Paragon Award from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) in the category of best college Web site. The awards were announced at NCMPR’s national conference in Philadelphia, PA in March.
The UACCM Web site was voted third best in the country among competing two-year colleges by a national panel of judges. Entries in the category of Web site were judged based on content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity, and overall experience.
The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations is an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges, and is the only organization exclusively designed for marketing and public relations personnel from the country’s community, junior and technical colleges. The NCMPR's prestigious national Paragon Awards recognize outstanding achievement in communications. Winners hail from large, multi-campus districts and small institutions, from large staffs to one-person shops. There are over 600 member colleges in the organization, and approximately 1500 Paragon entries were received in 44 categories.

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) Foundation is making preparations for its sixth annual “Links for Learning” fund-raising golf tournament. The three-person scramble tournament is scheduled for May 19 at the Morrilton Country Club with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
The cost of entry for the tournament is $75 per person or $225 for each three-person team. Players will receive access to a golf cart, snacks and beverages throughout the day, lunch, access to an awards ceremony reception and a gift bag with each paid entry fee. The awards ceremony reception will be in the Morrilton Country Club dining room following the tournament, and prizes will be awarded for top scorers in three flights. There will be a hole-in-one contest, a putting contest, and chances to improve overall scores through donations. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day in the clubhouse and prizes will also be given for longest drive and closest to the pin winners.
There will be a golf ball drop contest, which will allow tournament participants as well as the general public to purchase chances for numbered golf balls which will be dropped from the sky during the tournament. The owner of the ball that lands closest to the pin will win a $1,000 grand prize. Tickets for the contest are $10 each and will be pre-sold to the public beginning April 1 by calling (501) 977-2011. Tickets will also be available for purchase on the day of the tournament at the Morrilton Country Club.
The College Foundation is currently seeking sponsors in the form of Platinum ($3,500), Gold ($2,000), Silver ($1,000), Team ($500), Hole ($100) sponsorships. The benefits of each level of sponsorship are listed on the college Web site at www.uaccm.edu by clicking on “Foundation Info,” then “Links for Learning.” Team ($500) sponsors and above will each receive at least one free team entry valued at $225.
The tournament will fill when 36 teams have registered. Entry and sponsorship forms are available online at www.uaccm.edu or by calling Mary Clark at (501) 977-2011. Forms should be returned by may 16.
The UACCM Foundation, which is comprised of a volunteer board of directors, oversees the various fundraising activities undertaken on behalf of the college as well as the management and allocation of the funds received. The Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation making most contributions tax-deductible.

UACCM Theatre Presents "The Glass Menagerie"




UACCM Theatre will present The Glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the UACCM campus on April 14th, 15th, and 16th at 7:30 pm, and on April 17th at 2:30 pm.  The Glass Menagerie is a drama of great tenderness, charm, and beauty and is one of the most famous plays of the modern theatre.  Tickets are available at the door and are free to all students from any school and UACCM faculty and staff.  All other tickets are $8.00.  Come enjoy this classic drama by one of theatre’s most treasured playwrights.

Graduate Surveys on ANGEL

Attention students who are completing their highest award (a certificate of proficiency, certificate, or degree) this spring or summer!
If you are graduating in the spring or summer, you should take the survey on your ANGEL account. The survey will close Friday, May 6th. We use the results of the Graduate Survey for assessing our programs and getting feedback on UACCM. Their feedback is completely confidential, no IP addresses are saved in their responses.

If a student is completing a certificate or degree and a survey is not posted to his/her ANGEL account, they need to contact Clara Paquette @ (501) 977 - 2157. Thank you.

A Lot of Announcements Today!

  1. The Graduation Cap and Gown order forms have been mailed out. If you did not receive the letter, please come by the Bookstore by Wednesday, April 6 before 5p.m. to fill out a order form.
  2. Reminder: Make your Fall and/or Summer advising and registration appointment NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. UACCM Timberwolf 5k run/2k Walk is this Thursday, April 7!

  5. If you are a current Career Pathways student, please remember to bring your updated FASFA information with you when submitting your application upgrade.It is not listed on the Application Update Packet, but is required to be submitted annually.
  6. SGA Announces the 2011 Spring Fling RSO Contest. Please take a moment to let your RSO’s know how to get involved.If you would like to have a table to represent your RSO, Please let Kelly Roach know no later than Monday, April 18th.The ‘Mask” can be any shape, size, material or design as long as it is Rio Carnival themed. Thank you for your help with the RSO’s and we can’t wait to see their designs! Good luck and see you on Wednesday, April 20th 11am-1pm for the Annual Spring Fling in Union Square.
  7.  The Mid-Southern Watercolorist Exhibit is on display in the lobby of the UACCM Leadership Development Institute! Feel free to stop by and see the beautiful watercolors during this month from 8:00am-4:30pm. Admission is free and open to the public.
  8. The nomination forms for the Faculty of the Year have been placed in the UC, Library, Kirk building, and BTC. Take a moment and vote on which faculty member you think should be awarded the title of "Faculty Member of the Year."
