UACCM Art Instructor Tina Lake Exhibits Works; Wins Traveling Art Fellowship

University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton fine arts instructor Tina Lake is among a select group of 14 individuals whose works are being exhibited in the Center for the Arts Gallery at Towson University (TU) in Baltimore, Maryland. Lake had five works selected by jurors to participate in the Ron Cubbison Alumni Exhibition, which began September 14 and runs through October 6. The exhibition was open to former students of Ron Cubbison, a Towson University Art professor, who taught at TU from 1966 to 1996 and died in 2008.
Lake was also selected as one of five artists in the art exhibition to receive a $4,600 travel fellowship to study art and architecture in Europe. Professor Cubbison was a firm believer in the impact of travel abroad as an inspiration for creativity and created a fellowship award for this purpose. Lake is currently reviewing information on European locations to determine where she will utilize her travel award. In 2014, Lake and the other four recipients of the travel award will reunite to participate in a group exhibition at Towson University’s Center for the Arts Gallery featuring the works inspired by their study and travel.

Lake commented, “Of all the teachers I have had over the years, Ron Cubbison was the most influential on my career as an artist and a teacher. It is well known that Ron was dedicated to his role as teacher-mentor and it was under his influence that I began to create works with deeper feeling and content.” Lake earned her undergraduate degree at Towson University and her Master of Fine Arts degree at the San Francisco Art Institute. She resides in Russellville and has been a member of the UACCM fine arts department for 13 years.
