UACCM Chancellor Dr. Larry Davis Receives Business Leader Award
UACCM's Chancellor, Dr. Larry Davis, was honored at the Morrilton Area Chamber of Commerce 85th Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony where he was named the winner of the 2012 Earle Love Business Leader of the Year award.
Dr. Davis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma, and his Master's and Doctoral degrees in occupational and adult education from Oklahoma State University.
He has 39 years of experience in community college administration and instruction. Throughout his professional career, Dr. Davis has gained experience working his way up from a graduate assistant at the University of Oklahoma to a math instructor, department head, and division chair before taking over as Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Arkansas State University. Dr. Davis took over the role of Chancellor of the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton in September 2010 and decided to make Morrilton his home.
A member of the First Methodist Church in Morrilton, Dr. Davis is an active community member. He serves on the hospital board and chamber board and is a member of the Rotary Club. He has one son, Ryan, who lives in Los Angeles, and one daughter, Sara, who lives in Oklahoma.
Since he moved to the Morrilton area, Dr. Davis has made a huge impact in our business community. He was featured in “501 LIFE Magazine” where he named Morrilton his favorite place in Arkansas. He was also quoted saying, “The people are truly united in working with each other to attract new business and industry while supporting the existing industries that are here. The quality of the higher education facilities in [Central Arkansas] (including UACCM) is outstanding, and all are committed to providing access and opportunities for the people in our areas.” In the same feature, when asked what he enjoys most about his job, he said, “The people I have met and get to work with… People love living here (including me) and [they love] helping each other in making this a better place to live for all of us.”
Dr. Davis continues to work to find new funding sources to expand technical program offerings and facilities and to grow the online programs at UACCM, leading local citizens to better employment opportunities. He also guided UACCM through its North Central Association accreditation and strives to uphold strong relationships with the legislature. He has a desire to see the growth of local businesses and industry and advocates for economic development in the Morrilton area.
The faculty and staff of UACCM would like to congratulate Dr. Davis on this prestigious honor.
