UACCM ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM

Did you know that the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton offers more than traditional college-level instruction? Through the UACCM Community Education Center, adult education classes are offered in Morrilton and Perryville to assist people who are looking to obtain a GED or who want to enhance their employability skills.

The mission of Arkansas Adult Education is to provide adult learners with the mechanisms to improve and refine their basic academic skills, obtain the Arkansas high school diploma by passing the GED test, and gain life skills that prepare students for self-sufficiency and improvement in the quality of life.

Although the primary focus of the adult education program is to assist students with the attainment of a GED, the secondary objectives include the development of college-readiness skills and career coaching. Many adult learners enrolled in UACCM’s adult education program successfully earned a high school diploma and have chosen to continue in the program to enhance their career options.

The UACCM Adult Education program offers basic academic skills instruction in addition to providing English as a second language instruction and offering computer literacy training. Microsoft IT Academy instruction will be provided later in the 2013-2014 fiscal year as additional funding becomes available.

Adult Education classes are offered free of charge, and adults 18 years of age and older are eligible to enroll. Currently, the State of Arkansas does not charge a testing fee for the GED exam. The test is delivered in pencil and paper format. Effective Jan. 1, 2014, the GED will be administered as a computer-based exam with a testing fee of approximately $80.

Adult education classes are offered in Morrilton at the UACCM Community Education Center, 600 North Saint Joseph Street, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with extended hours on Tuesday until 8:00 p.m. Additionally, instruction is held in Perryville at Harris Funeral Home, 306 West Scenic Drive, Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Prospective students are welcome to visit the Community Education Center on a walk-in basis to obtain information on the variety of services offered by the UACCM Adult Education program.
