UACCM RECEIVES ARKANSAS JOB DRIVEN NATIONAL EMERGENCY GRANT

The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services has awarded the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton an Arkansas Job Driven National Emergency Grant to train jobseekers in a four-week, multi-craft program.

UACCM worked with local employers including Wonder State Box, RockTenn, and Kimberly-Clark Corporation to design a class that will meet their workforce needs. This program will provide general technical skills for individuals seeking manufacturing employment opportunities throughout the UACCM six-county service area. The pre-employment training program allows participants to gain basic skills in the following areas: basic electrical theory, electrical motors, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, general safety protocols, soft skills, and interview skills. Unemployed or underemployed individuals can enroll in the class for free.

Lisa Ferrell of ADWS said, “UACCM has been a proven partner in offering training that leads to employment. ADWS seeks to fund effective employer-driven programs that will result in good paying jobs for Arkansans. UACCM’s partnership with area employers makes this a strong program that will result in jobs.”

Upon successful completion of the four-week program, participants will receive a certificate of completion from UACCM and three portable/stackable certifications. The certifications include an Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10-hour certification for general industry and two National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) certifications. NC3 certifications include a 504 Snap-On Multimeter certification and a 575 Clamp Meter certification.

UACCM is one of approximately 38 NC3 member schools in the United States. NC3 is a nonprofit established to facilitate the development of partnerships between industry and educational institutions. NC3 certifications are nationally recognized, stackable credentials that help to overcome skills gaps in industry.

This ADWS Arkansas Job Driven National Emergency Grant allows UACCM to provide free workforce training to unemployed and underemployed individuals. Six participants are enrolled in the first training class, which began instruction on April 20. The second training class is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 22.
