UACCM TO SHOW ‘GREASE’ FOR FREE MOVIE NIGHT

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will show “Grease” Tuesday, June 16, for Starlight Cinema, a free community movie night. The movie will start at sundown, around 8:15 p.m., on the lawn outside The Plaza at UACCM.

The free event is not ticketed, and guests should bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. A free concession stand will open at 8:00 p.m. with popcorn and drinks while supplies last. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors to the Fine Arts Auditorium.

Transferring its setting from Chicago to sunny California, and adding a dash of disco to the ersatz '50s score, producer Allan Carr and director Randal Kleiser turned the long-running Jim Jacobs-Warren Casey Broadway smash “Grease” into the biggest blockbuster of 1978. You probably already know the iconic story. 1950s teens Danny (John Travolta) and Australian transfer Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) spend their "Summer Nights" falling in love, but once fall comes, it's back to Rydell High and its cliques. Throughout the film, Sandy and Danny split, reconcile, and split again amidst a pep rally, dances, drive-ins, and a drag race, before deciding "You're the One That I Want" at the climactic carnival.

In addition to the June 16 showing of “Grease,” UACCM’s remaining summer Starlight Cinema events will feature “Furious 7” July 14 and “Avengers Age of Ultron” August 11.
