The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton is now taking applications for the final Nursing Assistant course to be offered in 2017. The deadline to register is Aug. 31, and only the first 12 paid applicants will be accepted.

This course will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 13 with a mandatory orientation session from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Kirk Building Room 123, followed by a CPR for Healthcare Providers class on Sept. 14 from 4:45 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. in the same room. The Nursing Assistant classes will officially begin on Sept. 18, with students meeting every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday until Nov. 7.

Students will be prepared to provide competent, skilled nursing care in a compassionate manner to residents of long-term care, hospice, and hospital facilities. Upon successful completion of this course with a grade of “C” or higher, students will take the state competency exam. With successful passage, students will be eligible to become certified nursing assistants.

Those who wish to apply for this eight-week course must have high school diploma or GED, and the ability to meet minimum scored for reading, writing, and math with placement scores from the past five years. Participants must also have a negative tuberculosis test and be willing to undergo criminal background clearance.

The registration cost for this course is $450, though grant funding is available to dislocated workers who are receiving unemployment or who have exhausted unemployment benefits. Grants are also available for unemployed workers who have an established attachment to the workforce, and those with a child under the age of 21 living at home.
