New Community Education Courses Available

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton’s Department of Workforce Development and Community Education will offer several new non-credit courses this fall. These are designed for self-improvement, continuing your education, learning a new hobby, or just having fun. The exciting slate of classes for the fall includes the introduction of new art classes, and the department is welcoming a new instructor for the Munchkin and Me and royal icing cookie decorating classes. There are no admission requirements for any course, but those interested in attending can register by going to www.uaccm.edu/workforce.

Sept. 17: Sewing Machine Basics (6-8 p.m.)
  • Bring your own sewing machine and learn how to use it to the best of its ability. Are you new to sewing but have a sewing machine? Or have you always wanted to learn? Then this class is right for you. Participants must bring their own sewing machine. Registration is $10. 
Sept. 19 – Nov. 14: Beginning Quilting (Thursdays, 6-8 p.m.)
  • Learn how to make a quilt from a local quilter in this class. After only eight two-hour class meetings, participants can walk away with a completed quilt. Participants must bring their own sewing machine. Registration is $65.
Sept. 23: Royal Icing Cookie Decorating (6-8 p.m.)
  • Come learn the basics of making those delicious, Pinterest-inspired decorated cookies. Participants will learn the technique of making royal icing, "flooding," and adding finishing touches to eight cut-out sugar cookies that can be taken home at the end. Seats are limited, so register today. Registration is $30.
Sept. 24 – Oct. 8: Acrylic Painting – 16x20 Landscape (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-8:30 p.m.)
  • Beginners are welcome! Paint the landscape of your choice on a 16X20 canvas. Only bring paints, brushes, and a picture of your landscape. Our instructor will walk you through the process in this five-night course offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Only 10 seats are available! Registration is $60.
Sept. 30 – Oct. 7: Beginning Crochet (6-7:30 p.m.)
  • New adventures await as you learn three basic stitches in crochet. Students will also learn basic pattern reading. Registration is $15.
Oct. 1– Nov. 5: Basic Cake Decorating (6-8 p.m.)
  • Learn how to save money and impress your family by learning how to decorate cakes and have a lot of fun in the process! This creative cake decorating class is for the beginner who wants to have fun creating cakes for every occasion. In this class, participants will learn how to make a tasty icing; and participants will learn many simple decorating techniques. Seats are limited, so register today. Registration is $40.
Oct. 7: Munchkin & Me Halloween Cupcakes (6-8 p.m.)
  • Get in the spooky spirit, bring along your sidekick baker, and enjoy an evening decorating Halloween cupcakes together! You will bring the cupcakes, and we'll bring the decorations! Participants must bring 12 regular size cupcakes, un-iced, in any flavor of your choice. Children must be at least 4 years old to attend. Seats are limited to 15 pairs, so sign up today. Registration is $30.
Oct. 21 – Oct. 28: Beginning Knitting (Mondays, 6-7:30 p.m.)
  • Knitting is a hobby that will stick with you. Learn the basics of knitting and purling in this relaxing class. Students will also learn basic pattern reading. Registration is $15
Nov. 4: Fall Inspired Royal Icing Cookie Decorating (6-8 p.m.)
  • Come learn the basics of making those gorgeous Pinterest-inspired decorated cookies! Participants will learn the technique of making royal icing, "flooding" and adding finishing touches to sugar cookies that you'll take home at the end. Seats are limited, so register today. Registration is $30.
Nov. 4 18: Portrait in Pencil (Mondays, 6–9 p.m.)
  • You can draw!!! In this course, you will learn how to capture a loved one's image in pencil. Registration is $25.
Nov. 11 – Dec. 17: Nursing Assistant (Mondays and Tuesdays, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)
  • Students will be prepared to provide competent, skilled nursing care in a compassionate manner to residents of long-term care, hospice, and hospital facilities. Upon successful completion of this course, includes 90 hours of training, with a grade of “C” or higher, students will be qualified to set for the state competency exam. With successful passage of the exam, students will be eligible to become certified nursing assistants.
Dec. 9. Munchkin & Me Christmas Cupcakes (6-8 p.m.)
  • Bring along your sidekick baker and enjoy an evening decorating Christmas cupcakes together! You will bring the cupcakes, and we'll bring the decorations! Participants must bring 12 regular size cupcakes, un-iced, in any flavor of your choice. Children must be at least 4 years old to attend. Seats are limited to 15 pairs, so sign up today. Registration is $30.
