UACCM Child Daycare Center Reopens

The Earle Love Child Study Center, a childcare facility at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton, has reopened with limitations on the number of enrolled children and enhanced cleaning procedures.

Beginning earlier this month, the Center reopened its doors with new children enrolled in its program. Slots are available for children in the toddler class, ages 12 to 36 months, and the preschool class, ages 3-5 years. The hours for the Center are from 7:15 AM to 5:15 PM.

Among its restructured activities, the college’s youngest learners have enjoyed playing outdoors in an enclosed playground and preparing the facility’s garden beds for planting—an initiative of the college, the UA Division of Agriculture Conway County Office, and the Conway County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee. This project promotes nutrition education and encourages children to try new foods while studying the growing process. They are looking forward to July and the addition of outside water days.

During the typical school year, students are engaged in a variety of thematic-style learning units that cover a range of topics—some of which include farm animals, gardening, and weather. Social and emotional skills are taught along with kindergarten-readiness skills for those student getting ready to transition to public school.

In response to the climate, the Center has changed some procedures to maintain wellness and a robust environment for learning and fun. Pre-plated meals are provided for children, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks. These are prepared on site and by the Center’s staff. The staff has implemented enhanced cleaning policies by sanitizing surface areas throughout the day and directing children to wash their hands regularly. Other procedures include staff must wear masks, drop off and pick up takes place outside the building, and the Center prohibits any outside visitors at this time.
